Ambar M. Colon Gonzalez moved from her native Puerto Rico to Orlando when she was 17. She majored in microbiology and molecular biology as an undergraduate at University of Central Florida, and chose Saba for her medical education.

Saba Experience: “My experience on the island of Saba was amazing–the administration, the professors, and the locals made it an incredible atmosphere. I forged long-lasting relationships with my classmates from all over the world who are now colleagues, and that is what makes this an unique experience for me. As far as clinicals, they were all around a plus. When I was later interviewing for residency I would always be asked what I had learned from each rotation, and I had a lot to share. They wanted to know my experience in different parts of the country, and this definitely helped me.”

Residency: Ambar recently matched into a Neurology residency at Prisma Health Greer Campus in Greenville, South Carolina. Having a sister who contracted bacterial meningitis at one month of age Ambar witnessed her seizures and other mental issues daily and now looks forward to being an amazing neurologist.

“I am beyond thrilled to start this beautiful journey as a Neurologist. Reflecting on my experience, Saba made my most desired dream come true and taught me the confidence and perseverance to be an outstanding physician.”
