Diversity in Medicine
30+ Years of Excellence
30+ years and 3,000+ successful graduates later, we’re proud to say that we have lived up to our founding vision of providing an excellent medical education and expansive career opportunities. The successes of our students, coupled with our support services and accreditations, all prove our unwavering commitment to excellence.
Saba University School of Medicine has earned Recognized Accreditation, enabling our students to be eligible to practice in all 50 states of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and other countries. Our accreditor, the Accreditation Organization of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO), is recognized by the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME) and its standards have been deemed comparable to the standards used to accredit medical schools in the United States by the U.S. Department of Education’s National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA). The NVAO is the accrediting body for the Netherlands and Flanders. Saba is the only Caribbean medical school that has met the challenging standards of European accreditation.
Saba is not only a beautiful location for our Basic Science campus; it is also the safest and most pristine island in the Caribbean. SUSOM has a growing network of more than twenty-five teaching hospital affiliates in the United States. Students also have the option of participating in clerkships in Canada. Unlike some of our large competitors, SUSOM has more than enough clinical rotations for our student population, so students do not need to wait to be assigned to a rotation.
We are dedicated to empowering students on their academic journey. Our mission is to provide comprehensive support services that foster personal and academic growth. Our student support services include:
- The Learning Center, the ultimate destination for academic excellence, offering:
- One-on-one Consultations
- Time Management Support
- Effective Exam Preparation Strategies
- Goal Setting Assistance
- Active Learning Strategies
- Faculty Advisors who provide valuable advice and assistance to help students successfully navigate the demands of medical education.
- Academic Support Team who work with you to create personalized plans and provide ongoing support to help you reach your full potential.
- Student Counseling is available for help with anything that may hinder student performance.
- Wellness Activities promote physical, emotional and social well-being.
- Career Advising, including our Specialty Spotlight Series, the Road to Residency Program, Mock Interviews, and Residency Application Preparation activities.
Our faculty at Saba have an advanced medical (MD or equivalent) and/or doctoral degree (PhD), as well as demonstrated proficiency in teaching. All Basic Science faculty are full-time and widely available to assist our students.
SUSOM is one of a few international medical schools recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to administer student loans for qualified U.S. students. SUSOM also offers generous scholarships of up to $190,000 per student.
