Saba student serves as Class President of the Honor Society

Saba student Chris McClean has just completed a milestone in his medical school career and is looking forward to what lies ahead for him. “I just took the Step One exam this past Saturday and I find out my score in three weeks. I’m taking a short break and then I will start on my RLRA paper. I am writing on the management of aortic stenosis in healthier patients.”

During his basic sciences semesters on the island, Chris excelled in his classes and was actively involved in the life of the school, making Dean’s List multiple semesters and serving as Class President. He was a Head TA in many courses including Anatomy, Embryology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Behavioral Science, and Epidemiology. He mentored students and was actively involved in the SGA. He also made time to scuba dive, a pastime for many Saba students and an activity that Saba is world-renown for.

“There are a lot of really great professors at Saba and they all work really hard. I found our cadaver lab amazing. Having the chance to have actual hands-on experience with a real human body is so different than reading about it in a book. It’s a once in a lifetime experience that not all med students get to have.”

Now as he gets ready for the clinical portion of his medical education, Chris looks toward a career in surgery, ” I met a Saba grad at the University of Kansas Medical Center who is a spinal surgeon. He told me about Saba. I think surgery would be great to do.”
