André Coetzee, has extensive and diverse experience working as a pathologist in both adult and pediatric pathology in South Africa and England, UK. As fellow in pediatric pathology in England, he spent time attending Sheffield Children’s Hospital where he conducted research into sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). He also spent time in training at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London where his interests in the field of neuropathology began. Dedicated to the study of developmental neuropathology he has visited both Oxford,UK, as well as Amsterdam, the Netherlands, courtesy of the European Confederation of Neuropathological Societies.
He has served as expert witness for coroners in the Midlands and surrounding counties of England in instances of unexpected infant and child death, and worked at Birmingham Women and Children’s Hospital as consultant in pediatric and perinatal pathology, specifically with regards to investigating pregnancy or birth related brain injury and other brain-related pathology in older children.
Additionally, Dr. Coetzee has many years of clinical training of residents in pathology and beginning as a resident with an honorary teaching contract at the University of Sheffield, UK he moved on to become a full-time educator at the University of Birmingham, UK from where he has joined Saba University School of Medicine
In addition to being pathologist and university educator, he has received recognition as a national and international presenter in the field of pediatric disease (including its history) and has authored several journal articles and chapters in pathology journals and reference texts.
He thoroughly enjoys what island life can bring; surrounded by open sea, tropical nature and its wildlife abounds, which begs to explored, appreciated and preserved for future generations too.
