Premier Furey Named Keynote Speaker for Saba 2024 Commencement
Premier Andrew Furey, the 14th premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, will deliver the keynote address at the 2024 Commencement ceremony hosted by GUS Medical and Veterinary Schools. The event will occur on June 8, 2024, at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Rhode Island.
Premier Furey’s address will highlight his unwavering dedication to Canada and the fields of medicine and humanitarianism. As a distinguished trauma surgeon and advocate for the future of Newfoundland and Labrador, his career serves as a testament to his commitment. With a Diploma in Organizational Leadership from Oxford University and a Master’s in Clinical Epidemiology from Memorial University, Premier Furey’s academic journey showcases his intellectual prowess and commitment to continuous learning. Recognitions, including being named Humanitarian of the Year by the Canadian Red Cross and receiving the Governor General of Canada’s Meritorious Service Cross serve as additional testaments to his impactful contributions. In 2010, Premier Furey played a pivotal role in establishing Team Broken Earth, providing medical relief after natural disasters. His commitment to humanitarian causes also extends through the co-founding of the A Dollar A Day Foundation, which supports mental health initiatives across Canada.
