Dr. Huston is an alumnus of Saba University School of Medicine and is excited to return as an Associate Professor of Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Skills.
As a practicing psychiatrist he has dedicated his career on advancing community mental health needs in Kansas through clinical and leadership roles. His work has included improving access to care, developing programs, and collaborating with communities to meet local needs.
While serving as a Medical Director for several community mental health centers across the state of Kansas, Dr. Huston has been involved in initiatives such as the creation of a MAT/Suboxone clinic, an intranasal ketamine clinic, and collaboratively worked to develop and implement the state’s first Psychiatric Crisis Intervention Center.
Dr. Huston has served on the Kansas Psychiatric Society council, providing guidance and advocacy for their profession. They served on the Psychiatric Infrastructure Committee in Douglas County and the Mental Health Medication Advisory Committee of Kansas to address mental health needs and reduce systemic barriers.
He has been nationally recognized as a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He joins an elite group of psychiatrists with this honorary distinction who continue to make significant contributions to the field of psychiatry.
Dr. Huston has also been involved in disaster relief, offering medical care during the 2010 earthquake in Haiti and Hurricanes Irma and Maria. These experiences reinforced their commitment to supporting individuals during crises and shaped their perspective on psychiatry.
In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Huston enjoyed mentoring psychiatry residents as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas Medical Center. They are passionate about helping prepare the next generation of providers for the challenges ahead.
