Shelly L. Larson-Peters

Neurologist

Shelly L. Larson-Peters, MD photo

Shelly Larson-Peters attended a small, liberal arts college in upstate New York. Knowing she wanted that same kind of personal experience in medical school led her to Saba University School of Medicine and to a career as a neurologist in Minneapolis.

Students like Shelly choose Wells College in Aurora New York to take advantage of its highly interactive classes (the average class size is 13) and one-on-one advising. That’s also why Shelly chose Saba.

“The small class size at Saba really appealed to me. I feel you get more one-on-one attention and it makes a big difference.”

After graduating from Saba in 2003, Shelly did a Transitional Year Internship at Regions Hospital in St. Paul and then a three-year residency in Neurology at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis followed by a fellowship there in Clinical Neurophysiology.“

I came to Saba with an interest early on in Neurology, and once I went through the clinical program this was really reaffirmed.”

As an adult neurologist, Shelly has a specific interest in Multiple Sclerosis, ALS and headaches. She is currently in private practice at Noran Neurological Clinic in Minneapolis, Minnesota, not far from where she did her residency at University of Minnesota.

Shelly’s advice to incoming students can be summed up in one word: persevere. “If being a doctor is what you want to do…what you are driven to do…you can do it.”
