• Rhett Griggs, M.D. ’02

    Born and raised in Jackson, Wyoming, where skiing and cycling were his passions, Dr. Griggs came to Saba University School of Medicine after first earning his B.S. degree with a major in Occupational Therapy in 1993 from Loma Linda University, Loma Linda, CA. He completed residency training in: general surgery (preliminary, 2002-2003) at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester MN, orthopedic surgery at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona, (2003-2005) and orthopedic surgery at the University of Florida (2005-2007.) Dr Griggs completed a Fellowship in hand surgery at the University of Florida in 2008, and is now in private practice with Alpine Orthopedics, Gunnison, CO where he was the first hand specialist in Gunnison County.

    Dr. Griggs will be eligible to take his American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery boards in 2010. He has published several book chapters including Metacarpal Fractures - Trumble's Hand Surgery, 2008 and Carpal Kinematics - Rehab of the Hand, 2008. He has done extensive research on basal joint degeneration and extensive tendon rehabilitation.

    An accomplished athlete, in 1997 he won the UT State Cyclocross Championship, placed 6th at the US Cyclocross National Championships and placed 20th at the US Elite Nationals Road Race. In 2000 he placed 6th at the AMBC National Finals XC. He also has had the pleasure of being on three Alpine Junior Olympic Ski Teams.

  • Sahana Vyas, M.D., ‘00

    Sahana Vyas is an ophthalmologist specializing in diseases and surgery of the vitreous and retina. She attended Harvard University, where she completed her Bachelor of Arts degree, with a concentration in Romance Languages & Literature. She entered Saba University in 1997, and completed a preliminary residency in general surgery at Brown University-Rhode Island Hospital, in 2001. She was a resident in ophthalmology at the University of Louisville – Kentucky Lions Eye Center,2002-2005, and completed her fellowship training in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at the University of Virginia in 2006. She is now in private practice with the D'Ambrosio Eye Care, Lancaster, MA, and is a member of the Saba University School of Medicine Board of Trustees.
