Q.What is the average GPA of admitted students?
A.The average overall GPA of the students we accept is approximately 3.2/4.0, however this is not a cutoff score. We also look for improvement in grades over time, difficulty of courses, etc.

Q.What is the deadline for applying?
A.Students are admitted on rolling admission and there are no deadlines. We recommend that you apply a year to six months prior to the start of your desired semester.

Q.Can I apply if I have not completed all the requirements?
A.Students who lack a course or two may still apply. However, acceptance to the program may be provisional pending successful completion of the required pre-med courses. Preference will be given to applicants who have completed a degree.

Q.Are MCAT’s required?
A.We only require the MCAT's from student with community college science coursewor, required science coursework older than 5 years, and with low grades (C's) in the sciences. We look for scores of 8 or better in the physical and biological MCAT subtests, however, these are not cut-off scores.

Q.Who helps me find an apartment?
A.The housing coordinator at SUSOM will assist you to find suitable housing.

Q.What is the cost of housing on Saba?
A.On average, fully-furnished housing prices start in the range of $500 for a studio/one bedroom apartment and up to $1200 - $1500 for a 3-4 bedroom house (please note: the number of 3-4 bedroom houses on Saba are limited). All properties are owned by individuals and therefore the price of rentals and utilities varies. Electricity is generally a separate cost.

Q.Do I have to stay in the dorm?
A.All new unaccompanied students are required to stay in the dorm for the first semester. Staying in the dorm helps new incoming students to get acclimated to the school and island. In addition, students will have the chance to develop study groups and possibly bond with another student to help share the cost for off-campus housing. Click Here For More Information

Q.What type of loans do you have?
A.SABA University is approved for TERI loans; a private credit based loan. If approved the maximum amount borrowed should cover the cost of attending for the duration of your education. Click Here For More Information

Q.Can I defer to another semester?
A.Deferments must be submitted in writing to the Admissions Committee. The Admissions Committee will consider deferments on a case by case basis. Deferments will typically only be granted for one semester.

Q.Are there real cadavers or models?
A.Students dissect real cadavers in Gross Anatomy and there are eight students assigned per cadaver.

Q.Where do students do their clinicals?
A.SABA University does have 100% placement for core rotations in US hospitals and or abroad. Click Here For More Information

Q.What is the pass rate for Step I and Step II?
A.In 2007, our first time Step I pass rate was over 90% with an overal Step I pass rate of 97-98%. In 2007, our Step II pass rate upon graduation was over 85%.

Q.Is there access to the internet on Saba?
A.Students have access to computers and Wi-Fi in the W.F.M Johnson Library. Access is also available off campus via utilities company hookup.

Q.Can I bring my cell phone to Saba?
A.For the TDMA - you can connect with ECC or Cellular One local agents. For GSM - The sim must be unlocked, otherwise it cannot be used. You can conntect with Telcell or UTS local agents. All 4 providers offer prepaid or monthly service. The cell phones can be used in St. Maarten. Package deals include cell phone, set-up and pre-paid calling card for various price ranges. Q.What level of information is available to students on-line?
A.The Campus Website at http://www.sabamed.org provides students with access to their grades and attendance records. The Campus Website is also the place to go for: exam schedules, course syllabi and course schedules, important notices, newsletters, on-line library access, student events and club information. Access to the Campus Website will be provided upon arrival on Saba.

Q.Do you accept credit cards for payment?
A.Credit cards are not accepted. We do accept personal checks and money orders in US funds. Wire transfer information is available by contacting the Finance Department.

Q.How do I request a transcript?
A.Download the transcript request form located under the Registrar section and follow the instructions. No transcript will be furnished to student who have outstanding financial obligations.

Q.Can I request a trasncript by fax, email or telephone?
A.For confidentiality purposes, transcript request must be submitted in writing by regular mail.

Q.What is the cost for a transcript?
A.There is a $10 charge per transcript in US funds for an offical or issued to student transcript. Payment is accepted by check or money order. Credit cards are not accepted.

Q.How long does it take to process a transcript?
A.Typically it takes 3-5 business days for regular mail service.

Q.Can I request rush service?
A.Yes, this process can be sent by overnight delivery for an additional fee. Domestic delivery is $25 and International delivery is $35.
