After successful
completion of the Basic Science program, students enter the
Clinical Medicine portion of their medical degree program. The
Clinical Medicine component consists of 72 weeks of clinical
rotations through various medical specialties in hospitals within
the United States and abroad who have affiliated with SABA University
School of Medicine. SABA University also has affiliations with
teaching hospitals in the Netherlands-Antilles making it possible
for Antillean graduates to complete their entire Medical Degree
within the same country. During these clinical rotations students
will work directly with physicians and hospital staff, conducting
physical examinations, history taking, case presentations, laboratory
analysis, and attending workshops, conferences and grand rounds.
During the Clinical Medicine program, students will have 42
weeks of required core rotations in Surgery, Internal Medicine,
Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and Obstetrics and Gynecology. The remaining
30 weeks are elective clinical rotations which the student may
select based upon their projected medical specialty. Family
Practice is highly recommended as an elective rotation for all
students at SABA University.
Students will be required to complete an objective examination
at the end of each core clinical rotation. This score will be
averaged with the overall score of performance given by the
preceptor. An overall score of 75% is required to pass each
clinical rotation. Students with excessive absences, whether
excused or unexcused, may fail a rotation. Violation of hospital
rules or a pattern of inappropriate or unprofessional behavior
may result in suspension or dismissal from the clinical medicine
program. Written examinations are not required in elective rotations.
