THE INSTITUTIONAL REVIEW BOARD FOR HUMAN SUBJECTS

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) is responsible for the safety of human subjects. Its role is to see that:

All elements of "Informed Consent" as defined by the National Institutes of Health of the United States have been met.
That subjects will not be placed at risk.
That all subjects are fully aware of any conditions to which they may be exposed.

The Institutional Review Board is made up of two members of the permanent faculty and three members representing the Island community. No research project, clinical study or investigation which involves human subjects, will be conducted in University facilities without approval of both the Research Committee and the Institutional Review Board for Human Subjects.
